Though he experienced years of bondage and misery, Joseph's character was refined and strengthened by his trials. Doubtless Joseph prayed to God to help him escape, but no help was forthcoming, and into slavery he went. In their anger at him, they imprisoned him in a pit and then sold him into a life of slavery and misery in Egypt. "Joseph was an arrogant young man who was hated by his brothers. Bernards than like no-see-ums, but why should that be the case?" Many assume that if there were good reasons for the existence of evil, they would be accessible to our minds, more like St. But if you look into your pup tent for a 'no-see-um' (an extremely small insect with a bite out of all proportion to its size) and you don't see any, it is not reasonable to assume that they are not there. Bernard, and you don't see one, it is reasonable to assume that there is no St. "If you look into your pup-tent for a St. If our minds can't plumb the depths of the universe for good answers to suffering, well, then, there can't be any! This is blind faith of a high order."Ĭhristian philosopher Alvin Plantinga provides an illustration to address the above flaw in reasoning. Again we see lurking within supposedly hard-nosed skepticism an enormous faith in one's own cognitive faculties. "Tucked away within the assertion that the world is filled with pointless evil is a hidden premise, namely, that if evil appears pointless to me, then it must be pointless.Just because you can't see or imagine a good reason why God might allow something to happen doesn't mean there can't be one. Others may use that free will to choose to do evil to us. Suffering that is a consequence of the free will He has given us all.Suffering that is just God's discipline of us to bring us to repentance and humble faith.Suffering that God gives as a part of what He is doing as an example to others.Suffering that comes as a consequence of our sin and rebellion. These are generally included in the discussion above. Suffering designed to enable us to grow, give us patience, humility, and a heightened appreciation of the times of joy. There are other forms of suffering that we as Christians deal with which we might also fruitfully discuss: In our discussion, it was pointed out that the above deals particularly with suffering that has no apparent purpose. The Weaver (author unknown)My life is but a weaving It can't be that he is detached or unconcerned about our condition. We may not know what the answer is, BUTWe know what it is not.and not just and illusion of some sort), then you have a powerful. Accordingly, if you think there really is such a thing as horrifying wickedness (. and thus no way to say there is such a thing as genuine and appalling wickedness. A way of looking at the world has no place for genuine moral obligation of any sort. There can be such a thing only if there is a way that rational creatures are supposed to live, obliged to live. Consequently atheism turns out to be too simple."Īlvin Plantinga "Could there really be any such thing as horrifying wickedness ? I don't see how. But if I did that, then my argument against God collapsed too - for the argument depended on saying that the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my private fancies. But how had I got this idea of "just" and "unjust"?.What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust?.Of course I could have given up my idea of justice by saying it was nothing but a private idea of my own. Lewis "My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. "Evil and suffering may be (if anything) evidence for God."Ĭ.S. "įlaw: If evil appears pointless to me, it must be pointless. Some other god or no god may exist, but not the traditional God. Mackie "If a good and powerful God exists, he would not allow pointless evil, but because there is much unjustifiable, pointless evil in the world, the traditional good and powerful God could not exist. I won't believe in a God who allows suffering, even if he, she or it exists. "This isn't a philosophical issue to me," added Rob, Hillary's boyfriend. Either way the all-good, all-powerful God of the Bible couldn't exist." So he might be either all-powerful but not good enough to end evil and suffering, or else he might be all-good but not powerful enough to end evil and suffering. "God allows terrible suffering in the world. "I just don't believe the God of Christianity exists," said Hillary, and undergrad English major. My line 108 is part of an HTML table, in particular a td. The HTML inside is identical to the code within the MJML mj-style tag that contains "red-text". My line 75 is part of an HTML style tag MJML included. I found them with a search for "red-text" that should work in many other versions. They're probably tied to MJML version 4.7.1. I hope you'll see code you recognize as HTML and CSS. If you're using the URL above, touch/click the words "View HTML" near the top right of the rendering window. How did that happen? MJML created HTML let's look at the HTML. The text is red, underlined, and italicized. Indeed we see all those in the browser rendering. In the mj-text tag above, perhaps you'd expect the MJML syntax of font-style="italic" would italicize the text.In the mj-style containing ".red-text" (CSS code, remember), we specify we want the text to be red and underlined (CSS and HTML rules and effects). There are lots of live questions and answers at (signup: ).Ĭompared to the documentation, I used three lines (rather than one) and I added the MJML attribute font-style. The MJML team supports a VS Code plug-in. The community offers a desktop application. Otherwise, you'll want access to the MJML program and to MJML and HTML files. Mostly for others or for later readers: If you're not able to use the URL and wish to recreate the following, maybe you can copy-and-paste the above code into. There, you'll see the above script and its browser rendering. You might find this URL useful-I hope it won't go stale for at least a month. This is code from MJML documentation (almost, see below). MJML translates MJML markup to HTML, but email authors must depend on that translation process. All syntax, application rules, and effects come only from CSS and HTML.Įmail authors can apply MJML attributes and mj-class only to MJML components, not to HTML elements. That is, the code inside the mj-style tags is CSS, not either HTML or MJML. The MJML mj-style component supports specifying CSS code that MJML includes in the HTML. We can use MJML attributes both in and out of mj-classes. Similarly, in MJML we can interact with MJML components via MJML attributes and the MJML concept of mj-class. We can use attributes, both in and out of classes. In HTML, we can interact with DOM objects via CSS, sometimes using the concept of class. If we restrict ourselves to HTML and CSS constructs that email clients (Gmail, etc.) support, we can get good email results. That is, the MJML program translates the MJML markup into HTML and CSS. However, you will be entitled to a refund and I am told TTA will also be dealing with this. Unfortunately all future bookings with Alpharooms will not now go ahead. Holidays booked via Teletext holidays were package holidays and are ATOL protected, meaning your holiday will still go ahead or you will receive a full refund. TTA is therefore now dealing with any outstanding refunds. Truly Holdings was signed up to the Travel Trust Association (TTA), a trade body that protected consumers holiday payments pre-holiday. For over 28 years Teletext Holidays has strived to offer our customers great value holidays to all of their favourite destinations including Spain, Turkey, Greece and beyond. If you’re still waiting for a refund or have a future holiday booked with Teletext Holidays or Alpha rooms here’s what you need to do now: Ryanair cancelled the flights for the trip and. Matthew Taylor, a 19-year-old student, and his girlfriend paid £1,377 for a week in Corfu in July. Cash-strapped students waiting for refunds. The High Court has now ruled that Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms broke consumer law by failing to fully refund customers within the legally-required 14 days for holidays cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic, the High Court has ruled. But Teletext Holidays has tried to fob off customers with refund credit notes or delayed refunds by saying it is still waiting for cash back from airlines. After giving Truly Travel ample time to rectify the situation the CMA took the matter to the High Court. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) then picked up on this and investigated. I very publicly called Truly Holdings out on this telling them they were breaching consumer law. Throughout the lockdowns, lots of readers asked for my help when Teletext Holidays and Alpharooms (both owned by Truly Holdings) failed to refund them for holidays cancelled due to the pandemic. I’m still a little bit bitter for a mishap some years ago, with the NGSC hassle that ended up eating plenty of my files. OneDrive for Business, which is part of Office 365, is something I have installed as well. In researching for alternatives to Dropbox I knew I’d need a few crucial features: enough storage, data stored in EU and proper mobile apps. What better problem to solve than scratching my own itch? Alternatives to Dropbox Perhaps I have a little less trust with them now, and I was looking for a problem to solve. I needed to migrate my data away from Dropbox. Perhaps I’m a little bit late to the game but better late than ever. I could encrypt everything before it hits Dropbox but I don’t see that as a working solution in the long run.Īdding all these together - my data (possibly) being stored in the US, and Dropbox being slightly coy in publishing this, focus on desktop apps that go beyond just storing my files, and the inability to provide my own encryption got me thinking even more. In addition, Dropbox does not support bringing my own private key to the service to encrypt data as I see fit. If I purchased 15 or more business licenses I’d get the opportunity to store my data in the EU. Does this mean that my data is stored in the US? Dropbox seems to imply this (and to be honest, perhaps they’ve stated this but I’ve missed that) with their conformance to EU Privacy Shield. Australia and Japan also do not affect me. Thus, Germany’s privacy laws do not help me. Additionally, storage servers are available in Germany, Australia, and Japan for some Dropbox Business users. Storage servers are located in data centers across the United States. Where exactly is my data stored? In the cloud, yes, but where? Dropbox has a short page explaining this: I figured I’ll dig a bit around the service, and what I’m paying for. The new Dropbox Desktop App felt needless, and I started thinking if I still wanted to use the service. Recently, Dropbox went public, and the service started changing. I ended up using only about 12 % of my Dropbox capacity I’ve had Dropbox on my mobile devices, integrated with Microsoft Azure, my Synology device and other services that needed to access my data. I simply love it it’s simple, reliable, fast and with 2 TB of storage it’s always been enough for me. I’ve used the service through the Plus plan, and I’ve also had the Unlimited (Packrat) version history for half of the time. During this time, I think I’ve paid about $1400 in subscription fees. For example, most chronographs can’t be operated under water, and many can’t time hours-long events. Later, when you see the odd elapsed time, it will jog your memory (assuming the idea is still in there). Other uses require that the watch have particular features. Activate your chronograph for a short time when you have an idea you want to remember. Or you can pass the time by measuring intervals spent stuck in traffic, watching TV commercials, or waiting for the doctor/dentist. Lawyers and others who sell units of time can track billable hours. When your wife says she will be ready in five minutes, press the… no, wait, that’s a bad idea. Or, try this: when they tell you your table will be ready in five minutes, press the start button. With your chronograph, you can find out how long an “instant” oil change really takes. So is determining the shortest commuting route. Tracking cooking times, parking meters, walks or runs, bike rides, exercise routines, meetings, and guaranteed pizza delivery are often cited. Salesman: “How will you use your chronograph?” Customer: “Use it? I hadn’t thought about that.” Chronographs are not just for timing races – they offer many practical uses. To guide your choice we offer 10 factors to consider when selecting a chronograph, to help make sure it suits your wants and your needs. Sometimes, the analysis of which watch to buy proceeds little further than, “Wow, that one looks cool.” Chronographs, however, are often thought of as “tool watches,” and when it comes to tools, you want the right one for the job. Unfortunately, the disease will eventually result in death in almost every case. Once disease develops, most individuals deteriorate rapidly, although some cats remain normal for several weeks. Many cats with non-effusive FIP will have ocular (eye) symptoms as their only clinical sign. The dry form often involves severe inflammation in one or more organs including the eyes, brain, liver, intestine, or other organs of the body, leading to a variety of clinical signs. Some cats develop 'dry' or non-effusive FIP where little to no fluid accumulates. After a period of several days to a few weeks other symptoms typically begin to occur.Īt this stage, most cats will develop the 'wet' or effusive form of FIP, which refers to the accumulation of fluid in body cavities fluid may accumulate in the abdomen, leading to a swollen abdomen, or in the chest cavity, resulting in difficulty with breathing. Listlessness, lethargy, decreased or absent appetite, weight loss, and a fluctuating fever are commonly reported clinical signs. In cats that develop FIP disease, the first signs of illness may be very vague. Transmission on clothing or other objects is only likely within a few hours of contact. Although the virus is quite fragile and does not survive for more than 24-36 hours in the normal environment, it is believed that cold temperatures may preserve the virus for months. Most cats only shed the virus for a few months, but a small percentage will shed the virus continuously for life. It is estimated that about one-third of these cats shed the virus in their feces. Most cats become infected with feline coronavirus through the fecal-oral route (oral contact with infected feces). How does a cat become infected with feline coronavirus? Genetic factors are also thought to contribute to the development of FIP. Cats that are stressed due to re-homing, have recently had surgery, or have concurrent infections (more than one infection at a time) may also be more susceptible to developing FIP. FIP may be more common in cats that live in multi-cat households, shelters, or catteries. Those breeds include the Abyssinian, Bengal, Birman, Himalayan, Ragdoll, and Devon Rex. The incidence of feline infectious peritonitis disease is low (only 5 to 10% of infected cats and less than 1% of cats admitted to veterinary hospitals).Īre certain cat breeds more susceptible to FIP?Ĭertain breeds of cats may be more likely to develop FIP. The majority of cats with feline enteric coronavirus (about 90% or more) remain healthy. Many cats (up to 50% in single cat households and as high as 80-90% in multi-cat environments) become infected with one or more strains of feline coronavirus at some time in their lives. How common is infection with feline coronavirus in comparison with FIP disease? FIP remains one of the least understood of all cat diseases. The factors determining why one cat becomes diseased while others remain unaffected are unclear. Even when infected with known FIP-causing strains, many cats do not develop FIP disease. Unfortunately there are no laboratory tests available that can distinguish between the enteric coronavirus and the FIP-causing strains. "FIP remains one of the least understood of all cat diseases."ĭiagnosing FIP is very challenging for many reasons. |
